You can have many copies of your cherished filese, key memories, good safe keeping things… I decided this end of summer I was going to put in place strategy.

Breathing old life into old machines

My Macbook Pro 10,1 from approx 2012… now is running MX Linux! Distraction free writing machine and more. I still need to replace the battery… which may cost up to 150-200 apparently… but its worth it in my view.

New Horizons: like the dawn

Sometimes it is good to reflect on past progress and difficulties, with the explicit desire to broaden one’s horizons.

By the term broadening one’s horizons I imply a desire to broaden ones perspective of what is possible in the future, out of more narrow options considered from recent experiences.

Lets consider what I intend by the term horizon, with an ode to the dawning of the day:

I think of the Dawn where new indirect sunlight filters into the sky. Thats seeing the horizon, before the sun hits directly. The Dawn is on the horizon, and it provides the first signals of the sun to come.

June 2026: Life as a free agent and the year ahead

Im on the lookout for my next thing! What that might even be is up for consideration. Ive got a lot of support and stuff to keep me busy.

Now->August 19: Relaxing, re-envisioning, small projects, a bunch of words to say not much yet. Includes travel, one wedding, small project work.

2-6+ Months of searching for a new opportunity. All the usual. Job Boards, Networking, Research.

6-9+ If no new opportunity yet, consider retraining, doing certifications. Solidly considering whats a good fit and going there.

The problem

Ive been in a malaise. Many software products around notes and knowledge keeping are not quite a good fit, and the effort Ive put into them seems lost years later. You can tap stuff into them… or write big important notes… and they just dont seem handy or manageable afterwards.

Keep, Apple Notes, Evernote… Ive tried a few. They did not feel built to last.

Keep and Apple Notes are locked into the walled garden system in a database and not as easily worked with. Often they dont sync with file systems or work well with common file management tools. Basically I might put a few grocery lists in there, but all my actual important thoughts seemed too important to put there.
